Roger On Microphone

I am extremely pleased with the functionality and performance of my Roger On microphone in the few weeks that I have used it. I also find the Roger On app to be intuitive and easy to use.
For my hearing problem, boosting the volume of my hearing aids more than two steps results in voices becoming shrill. The Roger On seems to contain more powerful microphones than those in my hearing aids. Thus, the device can deliver higher volume levels with less degradation of sound quality.
I also like the convenience of using the Roger On. When the device is switched on it immediately becomes the primary listening microphone. Switched off, my hearing aids return to their default ‘Automatic’ mode.
When the Roger On is pointed toward a speaker it effectively amplifies that voice without distortion, while ignoring other conversations.
In table mode, via the included app, the Roger On can easily and effectively be directionally configured to pick up specific soft or weak voices around the table, while at the same time ignoring others. It also can be placed in a position near voices otherwise difficult to hear, even far distant from my ears.
I have been very pleased with the service given me by Deaf and Hear Alberta who offered a price for the Roger On that made the purchase worthwhile for me.

Roger On

For the last 15 years or so I have not been able to cope with speech at a gathering of multiple people such as a funeral reception or wedding reception. I have a hearing aid on one side and a cochlear implant on the other. The noise from multiple conversations around me made it impossible for me to understand what was being said by the person right in front of me or beside me.
A Roger pen was helpful but really only if was being held very close to the mouth of the speaker on on a lanyard around the speaker's neck and most people do not like someone holding something that close to their face.

A few days ago I took my new Roger On to a family funeral reception. I found it was quite helpful to me as I just pointed the device towards the speakers mouth as I stood a couple of feet away. I could understand what was being said and the speaker was fine with me pointing the microphone towards their mouth from this distance. Of course it was also helpful that Covid masks were no longer being worn and I could see the speakers lips move.

So I am quite pleased with what the Roger On is doing for me in a noisy background situation.
